Nonoba 20.000$ Multiplayer Game Competition Winners!
Posted a long time ago by Chris It´s finally time to announce the winners of the Nonoba Multiplayer API Kick Off competition! The past week the judges have been gathering in private multiplayer games, playing, discussing and rating the multiplayer games. We used judges to pick the winners, instead of just looking at the play count for each game to ensure that the best game won. Had we just
looked at play count, early games and well distributed games would have had an unfair advantage.
After all the votes where counted up, Starland Multiplayer TD came out as the winner, very closely followed by Bombators Multiplayer. Third place goes to one of the newest games on the platform, Multiplayer Memory Mayhem, which was an instant success with the judges. A more in depth look on the winners, and comments from the judges, can be found at this competition overview.
Congratulations to all the winners, and a big thanks to all the participants.
We were truly amazed at the quality of the games, and hope the best is yet to come!

Posted a long time agohey don't feel bad, i had 6 games competing..they probably placed last,2nd to last ,3rd to last....etc...lol

Posted a long time agoMultiplayer Pool, Final Takedown Arena, Zombies...
vs
Multiplayer Memory MayhEm(!!!) and two remakes just like all the other remakes of the same games. I don't wanna sound too harsh or anything, but this is insulting to the great developers found at nonoba.

Posted a long time agoCongrats to the winners, and to the participants as well for all the great games! And congrats to Nonoba for organizing a great contest.
"We were truly amazed at the quality of the games, and hope the best is yet to come!"
-Yup, I'm sure that the best is yet to come, and I'm looking forward to playing (and making) more games on the platform. :)

Posted a long time agoCongrats to the winners!
But concerning the judges, we really agree with Yohannes above. Shouldn't this be a popularity contest!? The 3rd place only has around 6k of plays today (Nov. 8)!?
Tell us how you can call that a fair judgement?

Posted a long time agoi actually thought for sure your game would have placed at least 3rd!
thats a lot of money that we all lost to just forget about..it would be nice to be able to get some details in the forum from the judges..

Posted a long time agoAGREED with MIKE, We-Die-Young, Yohannes.
Chris, can you be a bit more detailed about what makes a game "Popular"? Many of the developers of Multiplayer Games are eager to listen that. Not that I am complaining, I will love to learn the meaning of "Popular".

Posted a long time agoI just cant belive that a game like Bombators that has been the most played game and the most favourited game, been probably on the front page of the most important game site lost against Starland :(
And Zombies or Pool losing against the memory game, is almot ridicolous.
Probably the judges didnt think very much before to vote...

Posted a long time agountil we know who the judges were it's hard to say
So can we know who they were at least?

Posted a long time agoI actually think that the biggest mistake was made just the last few days of the competition, when they decided to change the rules of it and included the judges.
If the competition would have been going as it had to be, the winners would have been:
1st me with Bombators
2nd saikat344 with Pool
3rd NerdyGames with Zombies
I am pretty sure that nobody of the developers, would have contested the decision.
But anyway, mine are only thought, the competition is over and if it was an error I dont think that nobody of us can repair it.
I am very happy to have won at least the 2nd price, but I cant negate that I would have been happier to win the 1st :D
I just hope now that wmarsh will give a significant help to the comunity of developers of Nonoba, at least if not more than those developers that have spent months to make the best they could.
Of cours this is just my opinion.

Posted a long time agoAh I'm very glad you weighed in on this because you had some very successful games that won many weekly and even monthly contests i believe so i thought for sure you would be taking first place..maybe even 2nd as well ...
so the question is why the rule change?
and now another question is why the long silence on this from Chris?

Posted a long time agoI agree Lorenzgames.
I just can't understand why Nonoba changed the competition rules at the last minute. That voids the efforts of many developers and their hard work goes unrewarded.
mike950 said
Posted a long time agoi'm really starting to feel bad about all this.. i mean i don't think there's a more generous place for flash developers
as far as weekly and monthly prize money and fantastic API's ..
lets just drop all this..yes?

Posted a long time agoChanging the rules just before the end of a competition is unacceptable!
That your rules were stupid to begin with is not an excuse.
"Had we just looked at play count, early games and well distributed games would have had an unfair advantage."
Well, that is however what you promised to begin with. That's the original terms for the competition, so if you think that's unfair, you simply shouldn't have made it like that. You even told people to make sure to promote and spread their game to increase chance of winning, so that was the whole point of your competition. POPULARITY!
It is completely unacceptable that not only do you chose to change the MAIN rule of the competition, right at the end of it, but you also don't tell anyone about it.
You have really lost my respect. If you thought the competition rules were bad, you should have made another competition later, or added more prizes to be given to game judges after extra new terms.
oggologgo said
Posted a long time agoAND THEN START RESPONDING TO PEOPLE!!!!
You really messed up big time with this competition, and you are not even responding to people about it.
Completely unacceptable. You have lost my respect.

Posted a long time agoYou made people work hard to bring people to nonoba, for a better chance of winning the competition, and then at the end, you decide to make that effort worthless.
That's like if you buy lottery tickets, and the lottery company tells you, the more tickets you buy, the bigger the chance you have, but then once everybody bought lots of tickets, they change the rules, and instead base it on who is the best looking person.

Posted a long time agoI agree with everybody except "the internet", shes dumb,I say we should all go to chris's profile and show him who should be right. I'm not a developer and crap but i love the games like: Starland, zombies, bombators, but how the beep did multiplayer memory get third place?! ITS MEMORY, YOU CAN DO THAT WITH A STACK OF CARDS FOR CHRIST SAKES! And arby, you wouldnt believe what I did for you because I loved sneaky tanks, I want to every room including the ones with 1 person and told them to go to sneaky tanks and most of them said yes, i got over 120 people to go play, but sadly you probably wont win monthly competition
Im barrack obama and i approve this message.

Posted a long time agoCongrats to the winners.
It appears originality really doesn't pay. sigh I was hoping for zombies to take a place. They were pretty original too.
